The theme is the story of a Korean family who moved to Arkansas, USA. Based on director Jung Isak's experience, the film captured the lives of Koreans dreaming of the American Dream and cultivating farms.

Water parsley, Minari, is one of the most eaten vegetables in Korea and grows well because of its strong vitality. In this movie, water parsley was used as a metaphor for Korean immigrants.
